Artist's Comments

This here is Oriya from Yami no Matsuei by Yoko Matsushita. The line is drawn based on the cover of volume 7 of the manga. Originally I just wanted to practice drawing hands but I think I got a little carried away somewhere... *cough*

Anyway, I spent what felt like ages colouring the lineart. You may now call me Mukitta the Eternally Wristcramped o_o The mask looks too plain, and the background is not, umm, very original. Sorry.

Amazing :D
I dont know who that is but still
the mask seems ... very.. Naruto-ish you know those guys who wore like animal masks .. yeah xD

You do hands very well :D
Meep background is sweet XD
:iconmukitta:
Argh no Naruto xD Hehe, thanks. Oriya is an "evil" (well, he isn't, not deep down) character in Yami no Matsuei, better known as Descendants of Darkness. It's a shounen-ai manga so no wonder you don't know it ;D

I honestly stink at drawing hands, the only reason this one looks bearable is because it's drawn from a model.

Bow down to the all-mighty gradient bg!

Thanks, that's exactly the reason why I don't usually do fanart. But since I clearly drew the pic based on the cover pic, I figured it'd be best to submit as fanart instead of doing something as stupid as claiming it as my own x)

Very cool! I'm currently working on an Oriya fanart myself and I am so much struggling with his hair. How did you do yours? It looks neat :D
:iconmukitta:
Hurray for more Oriya fans ^^ Thank you!

Hmm, well, I have a bad habit of making my lineart a bit complicated. So, in this pic I had the "strands" of hair already defined in the lineart, and when I coloured it I just chose a base colour and then sort of cell-shaded the strands according to where the light's coming from. Does this help at all? I'm really really horrible at explaining things :)

Thank you for the explanation. The lineart must have been a pain then, but I like the way it turns out, so I might try it. Drawing hair is so hard =P
:iconmukitta:
Heh, I can try to find the original lineart and put it up here if you think that'd be helpful. Agreed, I hate drawing hair too. Curse this love of mine for long-haired bishies :D
